The FCI (FCI) is the agency responsible to govern and promote cynology (or canofilia) throughout the world including rules governing the breeding of dogs. Has 83 members that each issue their own pedigrees and train their own judges.
was created on May 22, 1911 with the aim of promoting and protecting cynology and purebred dogs by any means is desirable. The First World War put an end to the Federation and it was only in 1921 when the Société Centrale Canine de France and Société Royale Saint-Hubert decided to re-create the FCI. New statutes were approved on April 10, 1921 and March 5, 1968, got legal personality. Headquartered in Thuin, Belgium.
The FCI recognizes 339 breeds and each one is the 'ownership' of a specific country. The countries 'owners' of these races down the breed standard (detailed description of the ideal type of race) - in collaboration with the Standards and Scientific Commissions of the FCI - whose translation and updating is made by the FCI. These standards are the benchmark in which underpins all judges to examine the dogs during the exhibitions held in member countries of the FCI and all breeders to try to produce top quality dogs.
Each member country conducts international beauty exhibition international competitions as well as working, hunting tests and racing / coursing. It sent the results of these competitions to the Secretariat of the FCI which are entered into the computer. When getting a dog a number of rewards you can achieve the title of International Champion of Beauty, or Work Exhibition. The FCI is the one that approves these titles.
